Labatt Blue Hosts Annual Pond Hockey Tournament on Danforth-built Rinks

Danforth’s Design & Build Team lead the way during the Ganson Street Outdoor Rink Project. The tournament is traditionally played on a frozen Lake Erie, but this year, tournament officials opted for a safer, more stable playing surface. The 2014 Tournament played host to 120 teams for two full days of pond hockey play. More than 800 pond hockey players competed across 10 divisions with seven player rosters.
The rinks are located at 333 Ganson Street in Buffalo. They were constructed on the site of the former GLF grain facility. The two rinks measure 85’x185” and 85’x170’, big enough to accommodate 3 pond hockey games on each. These provisions were made when warmer than normal conditions threatened to compromise player safety and ice condition on the lake.
The Danforth Design & Build Team was responsible for designing the refrigeration systems for both rinks as well as installation. The Tournament was a great success for all that were involved.
