Buffalo’s Ryan Knoph Earns Edward J. Waring Award

Danforth’s Health and Safety Manager, Ryan Knoph, CSP, is this year’s Edward J. Waring Award winner. Ryan was selected by his peers from the Niagara Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) in partnership with the Western New Safety Conference. The award is presented to the member who exhibits distinguished service in the health and safety field.
Ryan has been an integral part of Danforth’s Safety Team since 2001 providing management of all worksites across the country. He is responsible for assessing the safety needs on a project-by-project basis, creating site specific safety plans, providing training and measuring the effectiveness of program standards and protocols. Ryan is invaluable to protecting the company’s greatest asset, its people.
Ryan is President of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) for the Niagara Chapter. The ASSE was founded in 1911 and provides professional development opportunities for its members through informative meetings and seminars and to provide services to the community in the field of safety. Ryan is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Western New York Safety Conference. Ryan was pleasantly surprised when he won the Edward J. Waring Award, and attributes this to his active involvement in the health and safety community of Western New York. His dedication to safety ensures that everyone on a Danforth project returns home safely after each shift.
Ryan brings over 20 years of health and safety experience to the Danforth Team. Prior to coming to Danforth, Ryan earned his Master’s of Science degree in Environmental and Occupational Health Science from Hunters College of the City University of New York and his Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of Connecticut. He was also part of a team that published their findings as they studied worker rest breaks in the International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics. Ryan is committed to the safety industry and is dedicated to continual improvement. He is an OSHA 10 and 30 hour, Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certified trainer and has been designated as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) since 2010.
About The Edward J. Waring Award & the Western New York Safety Conference
The Edward J. Waring Award began with the formation of the Western New York Safety Conference in 1935. The goal of this group is to exchange information, techniques, and basic administrative through an annual conference to lessen injuries in industries and businesses. Today, the conference has evolved into an annual exchange of safety, health, and environmental information given to the first line supervisors, the workers, the company administrators in charge of safety and health, and other professionals. The Western New York Safety Conference represents a commitment to reducing injuries and illness in the work place and has greatly contributed to the advancement of safety, health, and environment, for the worker and the public.
