For the construction of the 26,644 sq. ft. M&T Bank Rainforest Falls, Danforth was awarded the mechanical aspect of the project. The facility features a multilevel viewing area that overlooks the habitat. Danforth installed duct work in the animal habitat. The real challenge of this unique project was to find a way to disguise the duct work that maintains the rainforest climate within the exhibit.

In order to capture the natural feel of the rainforest, Danforth’s design team configured hidden ventilation inside what appears to be rock formations throughout the facility. The rainforest is the “Crown Jewel” of the Buffalo Zoo’s new master plan, so executing the job with creativity and precision was vital to the project’s success.

Now, the facility is home to numerous rainforest specific plants and animals ranging from small poison dart frogs to giant anteaters. The project was completed on schedule because of the extensive planning coupled with precision installation to provide the authentic climate and feel to the Buffalo Zoo’s premier exhibit.
