overview
New York State OGS contracted with Hueber-Breuer Pike to build an Exposition Center on the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY. The 136,000 square foot Exposition Center needed to be constructed as a flexible space capable of hosting a variety of events including the Great New York State Fair, motocross, equestrian, and monster truck events, along with various concerts and conventions.
approach
The Danforth team worked with Hueber Breuer Pike to provide design assistance and construct the mechanical systems needed for the large, multi-function space. All team members on the project were challenged with a tight timeline for building completion. Construction began in February and completion was required by August so that the Exposition Center could be used for the New York State Fair. To fabricate materials quickly and meet the tight building schedule, we utilized both of our sheet metal fabrication shops in Buffalo and the Capital Region. Our shops fabricated both 56″ and 32″ round internally insulated ductwork which was installed by our field crews with scissor lifts at a range of 50 to 80 feet above ground. Site installation also included 30 ft long, 4 ft high and 8 ft deep exhaust plenums, 9 Daiken roof top units, and 100 plumbing fixtures.
results
The new Expo Center is among the largest facilities of its kind in the region. Danforth was proud to be part of the team that delivered the project on time and on budget. The building opened just in time for the New York State Fair and has helped to make the fairgrounds in Syracuse into a year-round destination and event center. The company’s success on this project was made possible by all of our dedicated employees – from project management to the VDC team to purchasing and all of our union collaborators in the shops and field.
The Exposition Center was honored with the an AGC of NYS Jeffery J. Zogg Build New York Award.
